boy's medieval/renaissance outfit
Finished May 2005
This outfit was made for my cousin for his 6th grade Medival Banquet at his school. Sorry I don't have more pictures, my aunt told me they were developed so as soon as she gives me copies I will put them up here.
Materials: Black bottomwieght for the pants
White linen look for the shirt (left over from my FIER outfit)
Green Alova Suede for the vest (also left over from the FIER outfit)
For the pants I used Simplicity 5925 since I had never made pants before. They went together fairly easily, the only problem was since it is a men's size and my cousin is a little 6th grader, I had to take in the pattern about 5 inches on each side and shorten them considerably. They are finished with elastic in the waistband and the legs.
The shirt had no pattern, I basically used retangles of fabric, sewed them together, and cut a neck hole. I edged the neckline and the wrists with green that matched the vest. The wrists tie with leather ties.
The vest was actually a body-pillow case that I had made to use up the mass amount of leftover green fabric I had. I had taken the pillowcase off the pillow when I took it to college, so I had this rectangular shape already sewn together just waiting to be used. So I made arm holes and a neck hole and slit it down the front. I trimmed it with this gold trim I had in my stash which I bought for Eowyn's green dress before finding better trim.
Not pictured yet, but I let him borrow my cavalier hat since I hadn't got around to making it larger to fit me. We found a pheasant feather from a bird my dad had shot when he went hunting, and we stuck it in the had and I tacked up one side. Hopefully when I get the other pictures in there will be a good shot of it.
(I wanted to give him my plastic Sting sword that makes noise, but since it was a school function, they had told the kids if they brought fake weapons, the teachers would take them away. So he had to go without a sword.)
