arya's black armor

In the Making of Eragon book, Kym talks about the armor. “For the big battle scenes, they didn’t want armor that had been seen in other movies, but in a funny way, I had no time or money or people to make armor in the traditional way…Our hero had to ride a dragon and fly and fight and be handsome and young and heroic—without lugging around twenty-five pounds of armor plate. I didn’t want people to look like they were wearing big, clunky suits of armor, bit to have it be more streamlined…Basically we had to do body casts of all the actors and their heads and we molded leather to fit the contours of their bodies perfectly. Then we segmented it up, like jigsaw pieces, and sewed onto it segmented pieces of metal. [The result] was more flexible armor.”


Observations:
Chemise:
Arya wears a black chemise under her bodice. It has a high collar and long sleeves that are slit up to her elbow. She wears black arm guards that match her bodice.

Bodice:
This bodice is even more complicated than the tan one. It has a high collar and even more complicated seams. It appears to be black with some shine. It reflects the firelight in many of the scenes. I think the right shoulder is gold, but it is difficult to tell if that is actually there or if it just the reflection of the light. At first I thought the bodice was made from some kind of metal for armor, but after looking at some of the pictures, you can see the bodice bend and bubble with movement.

There is a triangle shaped holder on the back of her right shoulder to hold the (for lack of a better term) wicked looking weapon things.

Skirt:
We don’t have many pictures that show the skirt, but it looks to be about the same length as her tan skirt, or right above the knee. If you look closely, the skirt has an overskirt made of the same material as the bodice. It consists of a yoke and vertical strips that hang down over the black skirt. The yoke has holders attached to it to hold her weapons.


Arya wears knee high black boots with this outfit and carries various weapons.
